The average lifespan of a laptop is three to five years. It may survive longer than that, but as the components become less capable of running advanced applications, it is unlikely it will keep up with new technology. So what to do with an old Neptune laptop? We call ITdonations.\

How it works

Since 2019, ITdonations collects all of our end of life IT equipment. First and foremost they ensure that any Neptune data on the laptops are removed beyond recovery to prevent sensitive data turning up in unwanted places.

They use a software tool called Blancco, a certified method that has been approved by the Dutch intelligence service AIVD. Next, the laptops are taken apart and materials are disposed of in compliance with environmental legislation.

The same applies to other end of life IT equipment such as desktops, printers, servers and monitors. On each item we get a report detailing its serial number and status, and its residual value which Neptune has chosen to donate to UNICEF.

About UNICEF

UNICEF is a worldwide organization that supports children - to defend their rights, and to help to fulfil their potential. Their goals match very well with the CSR strategy of Neptune, which identifies opportunities that address environmental and societal problems. As a company, we are focusing on sustainable growth for the generations to come. Our support to UNICEF enables us to give something back to society and to drive change for children and young people, across the globe.

To date we have donated over € 10000. And we will continue our donations because we believe that every child has the right to grow up in a safe and inclusive environment!
